Over the span of 11 months, the Kinder Institute for Urban Research collaborated with various community partners such as LINK Houston, BakerRipley and the University of Houston's Psychological Health and Learning Sciences department to conduct a two-part assessment of the Near Northside neighborhood. This effort mirrors one conducted by the Kinder Institute and neighborhood partners in Gulfton in 2018. The first part of the assessment and the focus of this report revolved around a survey of community residents to gather input on street safety concerns of the neighborhood. The second part of the effort, which is documented in an accompanying report, used a detailed walk audit to create an inventory of pedestrian, bicycle and public transit street infrastructure in the Near Northside.
