Abstract

A Fizeau wavemeter bas been developed that has demonstrated an accuracy of 1 part in 1^6 across the visible spectrum and 5 parts in 1^7 across any 1 A interval. The present design is a modified version of that initially proposed by Gardner. The design was optimized by developing a computer model of the instrument. This model suggests that the theoretical accuracy limit for this type of wavemeter is on the order of 1 part in 1^8.
