Abstract
This thesis explores how a particular relationship to the landscape can help us understand ourselves within the world. To that end, it explores the university campus as an experiment in how we can actively occupy vast spaces. Expanding on Gregotti's notions of the territorial scale and updating Jefferson's "academical village" campus typology, the project investigates both concepts through their perceptual effects on the individual subject. Through the reverberation between viewing and occupying megaforms in the landscape, the project explicates the existing landscape and informs our literal and figural place within it.
