An analytic expression is obtained for the speed of sound in a partly ionized gas under certain conditions. The method of characteristics is adapted to use this information for the solution of the compressible gas flow potential equation, and the contour of a nozzle which accelerates the gas to a high velocity is calculated graphically to illustrate the application of the method. A modification of Koga's procedure for using a computer to solve the equation is proposed.en_US
