Abstract

Dimensional analysis methods are used in designing a model rotary drilling string on which vibrational studies may be made. Practical considerations and limitations of materials necessitate making various approximations, and a method of minimizing errors arising from these approximations is developed. Equipment is designed for the excitation of vibrations similar to those encountered in actual drilling operations. The use of high speed motion pictures for studying the vibrations is proposed.
