Aluminum was strained in tension under a Geiger counter. Electron emission associated with plastic deformation and subsequent delayed emission was observed. The specimens were illuminated during both the growth and decay cycles. The emission rate, dN/dt, increased with time, to measured from the start of the strain cycle and could be described by an equation of the form dN/dt = K tn. The emission decay was approximately exponential. The emission yield increased with higher strain rates. Prior deformation increased the emission obtained in subsequent strain increments.en_US
