Item Digital video preservation & access: Broad strokes to local implementation(2013) Zhao, Jane; Focke, Amanda; Rivero, MonicaFondren Library worked in 2012-2013 to make a collection of born-digital video oral histories, a part of Special Collections and Archives - Houston Asian American Archives (HAAA), available through its institutional repository, running DSpace software. The film offers an informative and entertaining look at the library's development from the late 1950s to the present.Item Offering Infographic Short Courses to Meet Students' Interest(2016-06-15) Zhao, JaneA library student survey done in spring 2015 at Rice University shows that both undergraduate students and graduate students are most interested in taking library short courses on creating infographics and data visualization. In answering students’ call, staff at Digital Media Commons (DMC) developed a couple of new workshops and revamped some old workshops in this regard. This session will share experiences and findings on offering these workshops. The first method was a series of one-on-one interviews. The second method used was a session where students were invited to drop in and fill out a Google Form that has questions about their use of the library catalog. Finally, a librarian review was conducted to determine areas that needed further training and education within the catalog.
