The Effect of Intersymbol Interference on the Performance of a Digital FM System
    (1974-10-20) Papantoni-Kazakos, P.; Paz, I.
The error performance of a digital FM system is studied in the presence of additive Gaussian noise. The digital system considered is a conventional one employing a voltage-controlled oscillator as the modulator and a limiter-discriminator followed by a low-pass filter as the demodulator. The notion of

A Tri-State Delta Modulator for Run-Length Encoding of Video
    (1976-01-20) Batson, B.H.; Paz, I.; Collins, George C.
Tri-state delta modulation (TSDM) is introduced as an extension of two-state adaptive delta modulation. Its advantages for picture transmission are discussed as well as its implementaiton. Statistics from computer simulations of the TSDM on slow scan video signals show that the source messages (+1, 0, -1) can be entropy encoded for bandwidth reduction. In particular run-length coding of 0's gives a rate of less than 1 bit/pel in some cases.
