His major work, The History of the Franks, provided a detailed account of politics and society in fifth and sixth century France. By focusing on several key passages of this text, I argue that Gregory used his position as an historian to argue for a complementary religious and political order where secular, Merovingian rulers and religious leaders worked in concert.
