I begin with a brief biographical background and a discussion of his musical environment in England before and during his career. In my analysis of his mature chamber works, I compare his style to that of his British and Continental contemporaries. The penultimate chapter will focus on his Violin Sonata and how the styles of other composers are manifested in the work. Lastly, I will present the strengths and challenges of the work and the effect that these have on developing an interpretation.application/pdfengCopyright is held by the author, unless otherwise indicated.
