The work follows the Classical model of three movements (fast, slow, fast), with the first movement in a traditional sonata form. The second movement is a freer, meditative movement, and the final movement is a modified rondo-variations. The work attempts to reflect the Classical ideals of clarity of form, structure and orchestration, while the technical demands made on the players are within the idiomatic limits of their instruments.
