An aspect of the steam flood is the displacement of oil by hot water after the steam has condensed. An example of this hot water displacement was solved numerically for typical reservoir conditions. Heat losses to the overlying and underlying formations were included, and certain simplifying assumptions were made to facilitate numerical treatment of the problem by the method of characteristics.
