We would like to congratulate Rose Kantorczyk and Michael McDowell, our two senior undergraduate fellows who graduated from Rice this past weekend. Both have worked as RPLP student fellows since spring of 2019, and both completed senior honors theses for the department of sociology this May. We couldn't be prouder of all they have accomplished throughout their careers at Rice. Congratulations to Rose and Michael, and to the entire Rice University class of 2020!

ONLY A FEW WEEKS LEFT TO REGISTER ... for the RPLP's online conference on Friday, June 5. Originally planned as an all-day in-person event, the conference has moved to a virtual format due to social distancing guidelines. In addition to plenary remarks on Christianity and science in today’s world, afternoon sessions will provide practical information on bridging divides between science and faith and scientific and faith communities. PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS IN JSSR - The RPLP director's address as president of the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion (SSSR) has now been published by Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion. Ecklund gave her address at the SSSR 2019 annual meeting last October while serving as the society's president.

NEW RESEARCH IN JSSR - RPLP fellows Bob Thomson, Sharan Kaur Mehta, and Elaine Howard Ecklund have published "'Doing Gender' and 'Doing Religion' in Science: A Cross‐National Examination" in Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion. The article can be viewed online here.

SOON TO BE NEW FACULTY ... AND NOW WITH PHD - In our last email we shared the exciting news that Simranjit Khalsa, RPLP graduate student fellow, will start a faculty position at University of Memphis this fall. Now we're pleased to announce that she has successfully defended her dissertation, "Practicing Minority Religion: Interrogating the Role of Race, National Belonging, and Gender Among Sikhs in the US and England." Congrats Dr. Khalsa!
